One Small Step…Coming to MLWGS this Spring
If you listen to our local NPR station, Virginia Public Media (VPM), then you may have heard about a StoryCorps initiative called One Small Step. The program focuses on fostering conversations between people on different sides of the political aisle, creating opportunities for them to listen to each other about their life experiences, hopes, and fears. The goal is to nurture a sense of shared humanity.
Here’s a brief article about One Small Step. Intrigued? Listen to these featured excerpts: one conversation between a daughter and father discussing how their political differences have influenced their relationship, and a conversation between two young adults who met each other in an unexpected way during a protest.
Richmond is one of four lead cities for One Small Step, and this spring, the MLWGS Library is coordinating with StoryCorps and VPM to bring this program to our MLWGS community.
Watch this space for more information in second semester about how to participate. If you’re a MLWGS student, faculty member, or alumnus interested in helping organize this opportunity, please email me at wdegroat (at) gsgis.k12.va.us.
