Ceramics by Art 2 students in library

17 Apr

Drop by the library to browse the beautiful ceramic tiles and bowls on display by Ms. Mosley’s Art 2 students!

Students investigated the distinctive patterns used in Islamic art and architecture, then with traditional geometric, calligraphic, and vegetal patterns as inspiration, they created their own patterns and applied them to handmade ceramic tiles and bowls.

Guest artist David Camden helped each student learn how to use the potter’s wheel.

Tiles were created using a combination of hand-building techniques, including impressing, incising, excising, and relief applique. Glazes were selected for specific color harmonies and even some special effects. Patterns were created by hand application and/or with various masking techniques.
