Wondering what’s being reported outside your usual information silo? Interested in how a topic is being covered from a different political perspective than yours?
Library databases are a great place to expand your point-of-view!
This owl’s funky glasses reflect some of the lenses you can slip on with Advanced Placement Source (a.k.a., AP Source). The red, blue, green, and brown lenses should be fairly easy to decipher; the gold lens represents religious perspectives. If you’d like rainbow (LGBTQ) news, you’ll find The Advocate in AP Source as well.
To limit your results to a particular publication, put the title in the Journal field under Limit your results. If you’re using Advanced Search, then after entering your topic search word(s), put the title in the next box and pick SO-Source under Select a Field. If you’d prefer to browse issues, go to the blue menu bar across the top, click Publications-Advanced Placement Source, then search for the desired title.
These are just a few places you might start. For more publications in both AP Source and PowerSearch that offer articles from distinct perspectives, go to the Student Information course in itslearning and download the polemic publications list from the Library Resources folder. If you need our school’s password to access AP Source, the library’s passwords are in the same folder.
