Documentary poems by Military History students

02 Jun

Students in Mr. Brown’s military history seminar recently completed a war poetry unit which culminated in each student writing a documentary poem based on an oral history collected in the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project.

Visit the library’s Documentary Poetry guide to learn more about this pulse with poetry and to access sources related to documentary poetry units taught at MLWGS.

Scroll down to the bottom of the guide for links to three poems by this year’s seminar students:

  • “After Graduation, Another Journey” by Hunter Collins – source: transcript of Charles Edward Creel, Jr.
  • “Driving” by Sterling Schmidt – source: transcript of Luis Gerardo Arguelles
  • “This Kid Came In-Country” by Peter Vieira – source: transcript of Steven L. Bobb, Sr.
