If you have an iPhone, make the recording using the voice memo feature, then send it to yourself, and convert the file to an MP3 using iTunes. In this format, the file can be played by more media players and edited in programs like Audacity. You can choose WAV if you’d rather.

You could also upload the recording to one of those browser-based file-converters, but why not leverage the features of iTunes since it’s probably on your computer already?
