Richard Blanco selected to compose inaugural poem

09 Jan

Richard Blanco, a first generation Cuban-American poet whose work often centers on the exploration of self identity, cultural identity, and national identity, has been selected to compose a poem for President Obama’s second-term inauguration.

Check out the NPR interview with Blanco, the article in the NYT, or his poem “America” available on his web site.  I had the delight of hearing Blanco read his work in October and highly recommend listening to the recording of “America” (linked just below the poem).

For those of you interested inthe intersection of poetry and politics, check out his interview with Poetry Society of America for their Red, White, and Blue feature.
